One leaning trunk becomes a whole row of emergency work if you wait.
A row along a ranch drive, or the parkway trees in an HOA, does not fail all at once. One trunk leans. One is hollow at the base. The rest are tall and look like the same job. Waiting makes them the same job: emergency, not maintenance.
A list of sound trees is a trim day. The cracked base comes out.
Maintenance versus the next wind
A maintenance pass is deadwood over the drive, the shop, the fence, or the sidewalk, and a reduction on the long ends of trees that are still sound. That is trimming. You can book it as a list. Twelve trees is a normal day to plan. It is a bad day to discover during a storm.
The tree with the lifted soil, the crack, or the conk at the base does not get “a little off the top.” It comes out. If the row is in a city right-of-way or the HOA is under a street-tree rule, a removal tag often also means the stump is ground and a new tree goes in. The city names the specimen. You plant that tree to pass inspection. We flag when a permit may apply — you confirm with the city or the city the HOA actually answers to. We do not pull permits unless that is scoped in writing.
Clear that trunk, then walk the rest of the row before the next wind.
After one of them is already down
Clear the trunk that is on the fence, the gate, or the road. Then walk the rest of the row in daylight before the next system. The one that shifted in soft ground will tell you. Photograph the base and the lean, not only the mess on the ground.
Stump grinding on a ranch drive is a separate pass once the wood is out of the way. If you want grass or a new planting there, the chips come out and real soil goes back. A hole full of grindings sinks, and it is not the specimen anyone specified.
Do not top the surviving row the week after a failure. You will still have height, and the next sprouts will be weaker than the limbs that just came down.
Send one photo per tree that worries you, and note what it hangs over: gate, shop, fence, sidewalk. We would rather stage one crew for the list than make three trips in the same wind.
